From the moment that the first pictures of these September 2002
novelties became available, the general feeling in the fan community was
one of mixed emotions:
The Viking Longboat (3150)
was a very convincing piece, executed with a fine sense for detail,
exactly what one would expect from any historical PLAYMOBIL® set. And on
top of it all, it came with an 8 figure strong Viking crew.
The Viking Stronghold (3151)
on the other hand was received with skepticism. It seemed to carry all
the things that collectors and fans dislike about System-x, and it also didn't look
much like a place of adventure and Viking bravery.
During our visit to the Nurnberger Spielwarenmesse, we could see a few
prototypes of the Viking Fortress, and it was a great relief that it
actually looks better in real life than on the box cover photography. A
lot better!
The Vikings true intentions are finally revealed in the Viking Raiders (3152)
set. Three Viking warriors returning from the battlefield guard a
horse-drawn wagon laden with precious treasures. The
warriors are heavily armed and are accompanied by two horses.

And what will this trip to the Land of the Fjords eventually cost to
the loyal Viking collector? The Viking Longboat (3150) is
actually the centerpiece of the new Viking theme. That's why it is
offered at a rather inexpensive price of €39. The larger Viking
Stronghold (3151) set
will be available for about €79.
