New Packaging Designs 2002

It seems a long time ago, when PLAYMOBIL® changed its packaging designs with the release of the updated castle sets in 1993. Nearly a decade later, the need for a more contemporary and uniform packaging design for all regions, resulted into a 6th generation of PLAYMOBIL® package designs  .

In a way, the new packaging standard borrows some good elements from the old days, and combines them with a more realistic cover photography and a better graphic representations of the content.

The color-coding of themes that had been used since 1993 was no longer sufficient, especially with the continued expansion of the contemporary city life theme, which tagged almost half of the PLAYMOBIL® assortment with a red color code bar. That's why this new packaging standard also displays a theme-related head-icon over the color code bar. In the case of the 3155 example shown above a Viking Warrior with angry eyebrows

The Pictograms, which illustrate the 6 different functionalities of a basic PLAYMOBIL® figure, are elements that we have also found on some of the very first PLAYMOBIL® sets ever. If you pay a little attention to the details, you can even see that they left the old horse design intact in one of these pictograms.
