PLAYMOBIL® Novelties May 2001

The May 2001 novelties, confront us with sound proof that Aliens really do exist. Life will never be the same once the Alien Invasion  introduces an exotic mix of little green men, alien plant life and extra-terrestrial technology into the Playmobil®-Universe.

The Alien Special (#4590) already gave us a hint of what was coming, but still, the discovery of an alien race of Little Green Klickies comes as a great surprise to many collectors and fans. Especially because Hans Beck - the man who created Playmobil® - has often stated that Aliens would not fit in the scope of Playmobil®. However, some things are inevitable, and an Alien Invasion theme is now being readied to take its place in the Playmobil® product assortment.

Unlike some of the previously released space themed sets, none of the five new Alien Invasion sets include a flashing light system. The "Alpha Power Station" (3280) would definitely benefit from an extra lighting module tough. It has plenty of fluorescent crystals and laser canons waiting to be enlightened.

The "Alien Spider" (3282) is a great looking space craft. By lack of any bigger Alien space ships this smaller vessel will have to do as the cornerstone of the alien space defense.

Two evil troll-like aliens are included with the weird looking set "Alien Toxiphant" (3283). Any Alien that tries to steal the crystals will get trapped in this extra-terrestrial take on meat eating vegetation.
