The August 2001 novelties focus on the traffic
theme, and introduce a new system of remote controlled
innovations. This time, it are not the trains, but two new
vehicles that get the RC treatment.

The Family Van (3213)
and the 24h service
(3214)
cars can
be played with like any other PLAYMOBIL® vehicle. In
combination with the Modular Remote Control
Set (3670),
however, they can be turned into state-of-the-art
RC-vehicles!
These new PLAYMOBIL® RC-prepared
cars and its companion Remote
Control Set are a fine
example to illustrate the perfect quality and
innovative designs that PLAYMOBIL®s Research & Development department
always comes up with.
Technically,
The Playmobil® RC-Modul system offers a break-through
digital-proportional steering technology and powerful
variable acceleration. This makes it possible to maneuver
these PLAYMOBIL® RC-Cars with unmatched flexibility
through the
smallest
corners of the PLAYMOBIL® Universe.

The Modular Remote Control set (3670)
includes the remote control
device itself, and four different building blocks in
System-X proofing, that offer a lot of possibilities in
combination with present and future System-X compatible
products. The four blocks have all their own unique function: a
steer-, battery-, antenna-, and motor block.
We've been able to test drive these
vehicles, and they are really great. There is only one minor
side: the remote control and the motor block require 12 AA
batteries. These cars may not be expensive in fuel, but
they will need a lot of batteries to drive you the distance...

The
August Novelties in the traffic theme also include a new
24 service gas
station (3218)
which will replace the current Shell gas station. Another
novelty set is the system-x service area with restaurant and toilet (3254).
The new traffic line is rounded off with
an electronic traffic light with switching lights (3264), a
road crossing
warden (3256), and
a few traffic sign sets (3257),
(3259),
(3273).
